Automatic transmission yes oil stays in the torque converter but in a manual transmission you get out most of the oil. For auto I get a pan with a drain plug change the filter top up the fluid then just drain and fill a week or two later and that's as good as a flush. With manual I add an half a quart to push out the dirty oil at the bottom of the case the close the drain hole and fill.

Hi. I just subscribed today. Thank you for great content. Backstory: I have a 2002 RAV4 with 75K miles on it. The transition is going south. Until I looked up what it would cost to replace my transmission, I didn't know this model year has a faulty transmission. Question: Is there a great TOTALLY DIFFERENT transmission out there I can buy, new, that would fit into my 2002 RAV4 or do I have to go with another 2002 crappy transmission? Until now, the only issue with this 2002 Toyota RAV4 has been a replaced serpentine belt.

changing oil when cold is fine, change my oil after sitting overnight, when the oil has settled , and let it drain for 30 mins till it stops dripping....all fine, and never prime the filter as it a vertical filter on top of the motor,,,you cannot prime it
